Even though we're enjoying some beautifully mild November days, when the evenings arrive, there's a definite nip in the air.
Cold air and dark nights can get you down but never fear we have the perfect anecodote. Our masterplan is beat the cold by getting as cosy as can be indoors.
With the thought of a snug home to return to after a hard day's work, the dark and cold don't seem so bad.
Here are some ideas for hunkering down and embracing the winter nights ahead.
1. Brighten and Lighten
Turn off the overhead lighting and aim for a little atmosphere instead. Draping festoon lights around mirrors will reflect their ambient glow or create a cosy corner by accenutating a small nook, perfect for relaxing in. Alternatively, if cuddling up with a good book is the perfect way for you to spend an evening, a well-placed table lamp will cast enough light to avoid strained eyes, without ruining the mood.
2. Snug as a Bug
Soften furnishings and surroundings with loose textures. Throws and cushions are easy style additions for the daytime and when the evenings draw in, are perfect for family movie and games nights. Kick back, relax and get your lounge on.
3. Glow Ahead
Nothing provides that relaxed feeling quite like the flicker of a candle. Mix and match different styles and types to create beautiful centrepieces and add seasonal scent. From votives to jars and tealight holders, you can personalise the look to suit your mood.
4. By the Fire
If you have a toasty woodburner or a beauitful open fire, now's the time to light it up and enjoy its sound, smell and warmth. Stack logs high in open weave baskets, soften the mantelpiece with fairtrade felt and add metallic accents that make your fireside a feature - definitely worth having a winter for!
5. Gather Round
With your soft lighting, scented candles, cosy cushions and roaring fire you're all ready to go. All that's left is some tasty treats to see you through. Load up your side table with wine and nibbles and you needn't move for the rest of the evening.
Your cosiness is complete.
