What is the difference between solar and plug-in festoon lights?
Solar festoon lights are ideal where you do not have easy access to a mains socket, while plug-in festoon lights are a good option for consistent lighting near the house, patio or covered dining area. Garden Trading offers both solar-powered and mains plug-in festoon lights within the range.
How long do solar festoon lights stay lit?
Garden Trading’s Solar Festoon Classic Lights can last for around 6 hours on intermittent mode when fully charged. Some rechargeable solar styles, such as the Festoon Cylinder Lights, offer 6–8 hours in intermittent mode and up to 8 hours on a full charge at the brightest setting.

Choose the length based on the size of the area you want to light. A 10 bulb set works well for smaller corners, balconies, fences or compact patios, while 20 bulb styles suit larger seating areas, pergolas, garden boundaries or longer runs through trees and along fences.
Where should the plug or transformer go on mains-powered festoon lights?
For plug-in festoon lights, we specify that the plug should be used indoors or in a suitable weatherproof outdoor socket box. On some classic styles, the lighting chain is IP44 rated, while the transformer is IP20 rated, so it should be protected from the weather.
