We caught up with Jon Holloway, the founder of Garden Trading, to find out what makes this range so successful and his top tips for achieving both functionality and style for every outdoor space.
Before launching Garden Trading in 1994, Jon designed and developed homeware and lighting products for companies including Habitat, Conran and John Lewis. In the US his client base included Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Crate & Barrel and the original garden lifestyle brand Smith and Hawken. This experience influenced Garden Trading’s unique outdoor lighting range.

“It is essential and very important to only install lighting that is safe to be used in outdoor conditions. All outdoor lighting must be at least IP44 rated. Essentially this means your lighting is protected against the ingress of water.”
At Garden Trading our full range of outdoor lighting is rated IP44 or above, offering even greater protection from the weather. Before purchasing any outdoor lights, it is important to consider the area you are trying to light and the sustainability of that environment. Properties in coastal locations will attract more aggressive erosion than inland homes, and in this case, you should opt for lights that have a suitable finish such as our Devonport, St Ives or Chatham ranges.
