We have just launched our very first range of products in our gorgeous new matt shade of Dorset Blue. Listening to customer feedback, there is a demand for a wider and fresher range of items in our Utility range. In light of this, we have first launched this gorgeous new shade across our bestselling Utility items - just in time for a Spring Cleaning refresh.
We feel that Dorset Blue has a quiet authority which fits beautifully with all neutrals and greys but offers a bolder, smarter blue than many of the more mid-range commercial Sky blues around. Although our Charcoal coloured products continue to increase in popularity, we felt it was quite a heavy colour for a utility collection and not as ‘uplifting’ as a calm blue which works so well with our current Chalk colour.
We’re soon to launch an exciting new range of products in this colour designed specifically for the kitchen. Despite a national trend towards grey, we still love a blue but have avoided over using it on too many canisters, instead keeping it as a strong accent on key products such as our enamel colander and tray. We’ve also replaced the usual tea/coffee/sugar canisters with a more unique Cornbury glass jar range in various sizes to serve a variety purposes. Where has inspiration for our new Dorset Blue shade come from? We recognised that our current Shutter Blue colour has been around for a few years and could do with a refresh, so our product development team searched through cuttings and swatches in search of a darker, more Nordic blue to update our range. Pantones don't always offer the precise mood or shade we are looking for so when a member of our product development team was lucky enough to be taken on a birthday treat to the stunning ‘Pig on the Beach’ hotel down at Studland bay in Dorset, she become obsessed with the different peeling blue shutter doors painted on the beach houses set against the flat slate grey of the February sea…. set up on the cliff was a lonely but calm shepherds hut in a slightly paler greyish blue looking so peaceful with a view to die for. Feeling inspired by this particularly calm colour and bringing back photographs to share with the team, we have created a darker matt version of our own aptly named Dorset blue.
Our product development team particularly like the way this Dorset Blue colour comes across on the enamel which is traditionally dipped and produced for us, there is a thickness that makes each product tactile but they also thank our brilliant team in India for persevering and mixing this new blue swatch for us in the first place...
