It's Blackberry Season

Although we’re feeling sad that summer is drawing to close, there is so much about Autumn to look forward to – cosy knitwear, hot cocoa, crisp air, golden leaves and crackling fires instantly spring to mind!

A great activity for this time of year, to make the most of the last few summer evenings is berry picking, take an easy to carry basket or trug and enjoy a leisurely walk in the countryside, harvesting berries on your way. When you return home there are so many delicious options, whether you prefer to eat your berries fresh straight from the stem, bake them in a pie or preserve them to enjoy over the long winter months - bringing back fond memories of sunny days and blue skies when we’re truly in the depths of winter!

September is the perfect time to pick blackberries and they’re abundant in many hedgerows. When picking, watch out for the colour – if you pick them when they’re black and glossy they’ll taste sharp and sour so let the colour dull slightly and then you’ll harvest perfectly sweet and deliciously juicy berries.
