Wilderness Festival

12 August 2013

Set in the beautiful forests and ancient parkland of Oxfordshire’s Cornbury Estate this was a festival for grown-ups who expect no less than a gin & tonic bar, a redcurrant mousse, a reiki massage and a matcha green tea as a pick me up! Every inch a weekend for eating, intellectual debate, holistic well being … and music, in that order!

Sunday was our favourite day, not least because it seemed to be the perfect day to complete a weekend of food exploration. From pulled pork to dressed crab, vegan curry to sheep’s milk ice cream, St John’s eclectic take on the anatomy of an animal to fabulously healthy, locally sourced seasonal salads … there was everything for the ‘British foodie’.

We settled for lunch at the Thyme Cookery School, where a plate of delicious salad was only £8 for a very generous portion. With giant blackberries, agretti, goat yogurt and hazelnuts featuring strongly, it was probably the most original food there and the best value for money.

Yes, I know it was a music festival but you wouldn’t expect us to just be there for that. So much of what we stand for, what excites us, was represented there in full glory, outdoor living, alfresco dining, rustic raw wood furniture, bunting and candle-lights… we’ll be back next year and maybe even with a presence.

This menu from the vegan Buddha Bowls, which consistently had the longest Sunday queues, sums up the day!
