Making your house a home
12 May 2014Each room in your house is likely to have more than just one function. Every home is unique, an extension of the owners personality almost, but it is also functional and serves a purpose - or purposes. Lighting is a topic that you should be mindful of, it deserves real thought and the affects and rewards of the time and care that you’ve taken in your lighting choices will be rewarded. When considering your home decor, although you may want everything to blend in throughout your home room to room, you should consider each room individually also. What do you do in that room? When? Why do you do it there? Granted, you cook in the kitchen
because that’s what the kitchen is for - but where do you relax, read a book perhaps? In the bedroom? Why? Why not the living room or the kitchen? Of course there are no right or wrong answers here, but just because that’s what you’ve always done doesn't mean that that’s what you have to continue to do.With some thought and some careful selection when it comes to lighting, you can transform each of your rooms into more than you ever imagined. Lighting can be diverse, functional, mood enhancing, practical and so much more. Yet have you ever really considered the difference between task lighting and mood lighting? Can you combine the two in your home? Do you want to combine the two?
It can be incredibly frustrating when you are trying to read or work in bad light. It strains your eyes and often becomes very frustrating. That bad light though, may be absolutely perfect for setting the mood for a romantic evening or a quiet evening kicking back with a movie. Just because different lighting helps or hinders a particular scenario, shouldn't mean that you punish or banish the entire room for that activity! If you are redecorating a room or living space, then think ‘and’ not ‘or’! Give yourself options! Your living room could be a space for entertaining, relaxing, reading, working, watching a movie, romancing, eating, partying... the list is endless, and yet it is possible to engineer lighting options for wherever the mood takes you!
Have that light bulb moment! Chose ‘AND’ instead of ‘OR’! Have fun! Play with the light! Be mindful of where that light takes you!
